Strategic Pillar II: Cultural and Social Leadership
I. Purpose, Vision & Mission
The purpose of the Tamil Youth Council (TYC) is to inspire, educate, and empower youth to preserve and to build a strong generation of culturally rooted Tamil youth who lead with knowledge, creativity, compassion, and community values.
II. Youth Leadership Workflow
For every project:
- A Google Form will be shared for youth participation, leadership sign-ups, and volunteer hours.
- Leadership roles will be assigned based on interest, commitment, and a first-come, first-served approach when applicable.
- Planning meetings will be conducted through Google Meet.
- Youth teams will present and showcase their projects during Tamil Sangam events and community gatherings.
- Senior mentors and coordinators will guide the youth throughout the implementation process.
III. Core Cultural Projects
1. Project Virunthombal – Hospitality
Event: Tamil Sangam Picnic
Goal: To help teens understand and demonstrate the Tamil value of Virunthombal (hospitality), which is one of the most celebrated virtues in Tamil culture and literature. Participants will conduct an interactive workshop and live demonstration showcasing traditional Tamil hospitality practices.
Learning Objectives: Understand hospitality’s cultural weight; learn literary references from Purananuru, Thirukkural, Akananuru, and Silappatikaram; develop public speaking, teamwork, and event coordination skills.
Suggested Roles: Project Lead, Literature Research Team, Event Coordinators, Presentation Team, Hospitality Demonstration Team, Social Media Marketing Team.
2. Project Mudiveduthal () – Decision Making
Event: Muthamizh Vizha
Goal: To connect ancient Tamil values and historical governance examples with modern decisionmaking models. This project explores how ancient wisdom can guide youth in making responsible life choices, developing ethical leadership, and resolving conflicts.
Learning Objectives: Analyze ethical decision-making in Tamil literature; apply structured problemsolving
models; improve presentation and documentation skills.
Suggested Roles: Project Lead, Historical & Literary Research Team, Content Development Team, Workshop Facilitators, Presentation Team, Documentation & Analytics Team.
3. Project Kalai () – Tamil Arts & Heritage Preservation
Event: Pongal Vizha
Goal: To immerse youth in the preservation of traditional Tamil arts, crafts, and cultural heritage through hands-on learning and artistic expression.
Learning Objectives: Visual Arts (Traditional Art, Kolam, Thanjavur Painting), Performing & Folk Arts (Isai Kalai, Silambattam, Therukoothu, Karakattam, classical dance), and Traditional Crafts (Sculpture, Bronze Casting, Pottery, Weaving, Tamil Architecture Awareness).
Suggested Roles: Project Lead, Art Coordinators, Performance Team, Workshop Coordinators, Exhibition Team, Social Media Marketing Team.
4. Project Tamil Unavugal – Tamil Traditional Foods
Goal: To educate youth about traditional Tamil foods, their cultural significance, nutritional value, and the philosophy that “Food is Medicine.” The project will modernize and gamify the cooking experience to make learning engaging for teens via a TYC Social Media & Instagram Initiative.
Learning Objectives: Learn traditional cooking practices; understand health benefits of indigenous ingredients; create engaging digital content (Recipe videos, Cooking challenges, Instagram reels, Interactive quizzes).
Suggested Roles: Project Lead, Recipe Research Team, Video & Editing Team, Social Media Team, Content Writers, Presentation & Hosting Team.

To prepare and inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators by bridging the gap between theoretical science and practical, real-world application. Our goal is to cultivate technological literacy, creativity, and self directed problem-solving through hands-on "Maker" activities and entrepreneurial coaching.
Strategic Pillar IV: College & Career Readiness
The TYC’s College & Career Readiness Program provides structured, age-appropriate guidance for middle and high school students. The program supports the TYC Charter’s mandate to offer SME-led workshops, mentorship networks, and experiential learning opportunities. The initiative includes four sessions delivered across the academic year, combining parent-student education, hands-on workshops, and exposure to STEM and career pathways.
